INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the basic 'Canned Vegetables' Sectoral Report.
Madrid, 16 July 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—the value of Spain's canned vegetables market posted growth of 2.3% in 2025, similar to that recorded in the previous year, reaching €1.33 billion, amid moderate growth in demand volumes and weakening prices. Household consumption of canned vegetables rose 1%, while canned pulses and fruits recorded increases of around 5% and 3%, respectively.
Sector exports totalled €1.093 billion, up 1.8% on 2024, with strong momentum in exports of canned fruit (+9.1%), versus a decline this year in overseas sales of canned vegetables and pulses. As a result, Spanish sales of canned vegetables abroad completed five consecutive years of growth since the 2020 decline, cumulatively rising by around 40% since then.
France, Germany and Portugal were the main destination countries, jointly accounting for 45% of total exports, followed by the United Kingdom (9%) and the United States (6%). Particularly notable in 2025 were the dynamism of exports to Italy (+17.5%) and Belgium (+45.2%), and the decline in those destined for the United Kingdom (-4.3%) and the United States (-6.9%).
Imports, meanwhile, grew 16.7% to €678 million, causing the trade balance surplus to fall to €415 million. Peru stood out as the main supplier country of canned vegetables, accounting for 26% of total import value, followed by France (15%) and China (11%).
The number of companies manufacturing or importing canned vegetables stood at around 120, a figure that has shown a gentle downward trend in recent years. Navarre concentrated the largest number of companies, accounting for around 23% of the total, followed by Murcia, with about 17%.
Most companies are Spanish-owned and family-run, although there is a notable presence of foreign capital in some of the leading companies. In this regard, the sector is characterised by the presence of small local producers operating alongside companies of a certain size, which have achieved a prominent position in the sector.
