  • The value of the Iberian road haulage market closed 2024 up 3.1%.

  • Further growth in turnover is expected in 2025, reaching a figure of around €22.1 billion.

  • The sector's business structure continues to be marked by high fragmentation, with over 106,000 operators and sales concentration among the top ten groups below 25%.

  • INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'Road Hauliers-Iberian Market' Sectoral Report.

Madrid, 20 January 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—the road haulage sector in the Iberian market generated revenue of €21.6 billion in 2024, up 3.1% year-over-year.

In Spain, turnover stood at €18.0 billion that year, up 2.7%, while in Portugal it rose to €3.6 billion, an increase of 5%, reflecting the stronger momentum of the Portuguese market.

Domestic transport maintains a predominant position in the Spanish market, accounting for nearly 77% of total revenue, while in Portugal international transport stands out, representing just over 52% of turnover.

At the end of 2025, the market is estimated at €22.1 billion, implying growth of 2.3% compared with 2024. Sector revenue is expected to continue rising in the short to medium term, although growth is likely to slow due to weaker economic activity and ongoing international uncertainty.

The sector's business structure continued to be marked by high fragmentation, with nearly 107,000 operators across the Iberian market in 2023. The public freight transport vehicle fleet rose to 311,378 units in 2024, with small fleets predominating; for example, 58% of Spanish companies had a single vehicle.

The top five groups held a 17% share of the overall Iberian market in 2024; the top ten, around 24%.

Investment in technological upgrades—both in vehicles and in logistics and warehousing centres—as well as the expansion of transport routes are other relevant trends for the coming years.
