Petrol stations revenue in Spain and Portugal exceeded €45.5 billion in 2025

Madrid, 17 September 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—total fuel sales volumes in the Iberian market maintained an upward trend in recent years, after a moderate drop in fiscal year 2023 due to the sharp rise in prices that year.
In 2025, volumes sold increased by 2.2%, reaching 40.36 million tonnes. Fuel volumes marketed in Spain totalled 34.15 million tonnes, up 2.7% on 2024, while the Portuguese market posted a positive growth rate of 0.4%, to 6.22 million tonnes.
In that year, petrol stations accounted for around 98% of total petrol sales across the Iberian market, as well as about 78% of automotive diesel sales. As a result, fuel volumes sold via petrol stations in the Iberian market stood at 29.22 million tonnes in 2025 (+2.5%), comprising 8.20 million tonnes of petrol (+7.6%) and 21.02 million tonnes of diesel (+0.7%).
The fall in fuel prices caused a moderate decline in petrol station aggregate turnover in 2025, which was estimated at €45.583 billion across the Iberian market, down 0.4% from 2024.
For year-end 2026, the data point to continued slowing in the growth of fuel sales volumes, as well as a sharp rise in sector revenue, amid a significant increase in prices.
In December 2025, 15,978 petrol stations were in operation across the Iberian market, up 1.0% from 2024, extending the growth trend seen in previous years. Most stations operate under the brands of oil companies and fuel wholesalers; however, hypermarket and supermarket chains and, above all, independent stations with low-cost business models continued to gain market share.
