INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'DIY Retailers (Iberian Market)' Sectoral Report.
Madrid, 15 October 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—the aggregate revenue of specialised DIY retailers in the Iberian market reached €9.285 billion in 2025, up 9.9% year-over-year. This represented an acceleration from the 7.0% growth posted in 2024.
The expansion of store networks and the strong performance of the digital channel drove sales, against a favourable backdrop in the real estate market. In Spain, nearly 684,000 existing-home transactions were recorded, up 5.2%, while in Portugal these transactions rose by close to 10%. Rising prices also contributed to the increase in revenue in both countries.
By market, sales in Spain rose to €7.450 billion, up 9.8%. In Portugal, turnover reached €1.835 billion after growing by 10.2%. In both countries, the pace of growth exceeded that recorded in 2023 and 2024.
In September 2026, there were 607 specialised DIY stores operating in the Iberian market with a surface area of more than 1,000 square metres, of which 393 were in Spain and 214 in Portugal. Catalonia, Andalusia, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid and Galicia accounted for around 60% of Spanish sites, while Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Setúbal and Braga concentrated 52% of Portuguese sites.
Supply is developing in an environment of intensifying competition from hardware and building materials retailers, hypermarkets and other department stores. This is compounded by the advance of online shops, with broad catalogues of home and DIY products.
The sector maintained a high level of business concentration, with the top five operators accounting for nearly 90% of total sales in the Iberian market in 2025.
