The value of output in Spain's construction sector exceeded €180 billion in 2025, up 7.5% on 2024, driven by faster housebuilding and solid performance in civil works.

INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'Construction' Sectoral Report.
Madrid, 15 September 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory—a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal—the value of output in Spain's construction sector, understood as gross fixed capital formation in construction at current prices, reached €181.913 billion in 2025, up 7.5% on 2024, when it had grown by 6.0%.
Housebuilding activity accelerated markedly, with an increase of 7.3% in 2025, following 4.6% in the previous fiscal year, to stand at €97.746 billion, more than half of the total. This momentum was accompanied by a rebound in housing starts, which exceeded 137,000 units.
Activity in other buildings and constructions advanced 7.6%, to €84.167 billion. This segment benefited from the strong performance of civil works, largely underpinned by European funds.
Revenue of Spanish construction companies in overseas markets kept expanding, reaching €63.7 billion in 2025, up 14.8% year-over-year. The six largest groups accounted for around 95% of this turnover, compared with a share of under 5% in output in Spain.
In January 2025, there were nearly 93,700 companies engaged in construction, down 1.1% year-over-year, breaking the expansionary trend of previous fiscal years. Employment reached 1.58 million people in Q1 2026, up 6.6% on the same period of 2025.
Supply is characterised by pronounced business fragmentation, with 98.8% of companies employing fewer than 50 people. Only 1,107 companies exceed this threshold. Against this fragmentation, large listed construction groups account for a growing share of aggregate turnover.
The six leading groups exceeded €70 billion in combined revenue from the construction sector in 2025, accounting for around 29% of revenue generated in Spain and in international markets by Spanish companies.
