Revenue from the sale of additives and food supplements in the Spanish market stood at €745 million in 2025, up 2% on 2024, after two years of declines in which revenue was hit by volatility in the prices of some products.
-
The sector comprises around 150 manufacturing or importing companies, led by subsidiaries of specialised multinationals and groups in the chemical industry.

INFORMA's DBK Sectoral Observatory recently published these insights in the 'Additives for the Food Industry' Special Basic Report.
Madrid, 7 May 2026.- According to INFORMA's (Cesce's subsidiary) DBK Sectoral Observatory, a leading provider of business, financial, sectoral, and marketing information in Spain and Portugal, after two years of declines, the value of the additives and food supplements market grew in 2025, amid greater price stability.
The market thus reached €745 million, recording growth of 2.1% from 2024, compared with the 1.4% decline posted the previous year.
Export activity is highly important for the leading operators. Thus, the combined overseas revenue of twenty-one of the leading specialised companies in the sector accounted for 41% of their total revenue in 2024.
The European Union was the main destination for exports by Spanish companies, and the sole destination for a large share of the companies analysed.
Forecasts point to market value growth of around 2-3% in the coming years, amid the growing development of plant-based products, driven by rising demand for healthy and natural foods.
Around 150 companies with significant activity in the manufacture or import of additives and supplements for the food industry operate in the sector, generating employment of around 1,900 workers. Catalonia accounts for the largest number of operators, with 50% of the total located in this region, followed at a considerable distance by Madrid, with around 10%.
The sector's corporate structure is characterised by the majority presence of medium-sized and small companies, most of them owned by Spanish shareholders. However, alongside them there is a small number of large operators, many of them subsidiaries of major foreign multinational groups.
